FINDING THE VILLAGE HALL postcode EX31 4SU

From Barnstaple:
Take the left turning signed to Loxhore off the Barnstaple – Bratton Fleming road. After ½ mile take the right hand turn to Lower Loxhore (also signed to the Methodist Chapel). Follow this narrow road uphill past the red telephone box and Methodist Chapel until you reach a T-junction at the top. Turn right here and you will see the hall ahead of you on your right.

From Blackmoor Gate:
Take the turning off the A399 signed to the Calvert Trust and Loxhore (also Wistlandpound Reservoir).
Follow this road for approximately 3½ miles until you reach a telephone box and road sign on your left to Village Hall, Lower Loxhore and Bratton Fleming. (Also a blue sign indicating a weak bridge further on.) The hall can be seen ahead at this point and will be reached within ¼ mile on the right.

LOXHORE OIL GROUP

Winsons, a local oil supplier, have agreed to offer discounted prices for group orders from Loxhore (or its close neighbours). You simply have to email/phone Winsons by the last day of each month and give them an estimate of how much oil you need and then decide whether you want to place an order when you hear back from them with their price which will be based on the number and size of the total order. Winsons will benefit from a loyal group of customers all within the same area who they can deliver to in one go.

SHOP AT BRATTON FLEMING

  • There is a small village store at Bratton Fleming which sells newspapers and a selection of groceries, vegetables and household products.
  • A fish and chip van visits Bratton Fleming on Friday evenings and a similar van selling Thai takeaway food visits on Mondays.

BUSES

  • The 310 bus service runs from Lynton through Bratton Fleming to Barnstaple. There isn’t a bus stop but the bus can be hailed at the roadside at Loxhore Cross.

FACILITIES IN BARNSTAPLE (for those who are new to the area!)

RECYCLING (other than the weekly kerbside collection) There is a well-organised recycling centre in at Seven Brethren, Barnstaple which accepts garden and household waste.

SPORT AND SWIMMING

There are indoor gyms/sports halls and a pool at North Devon Leisure Centre and tennis and other classes are available at the Tarka Tennis Centre close by.

THEATRE

The theatre in Queen Street is twinned with the Landmark theatre in Ilfracombe and between them they provide a varied programme of entertainment.

CINEMA

Scott Cinemas run the cinema on Boutport Street which has 1 large and 2 smaller screens

SUPERMARKETS

2 Tesco stores, a Sainsburys, a Co-op and 2 Lidl stores may be found on the outskirts of town.

The LIBRARY

Located on Tuly Street overlooking the car park which was the site of the old cattle and stock market.

The MUSEUM

Found on The Square alongside the estuary and beside the old bridge – free parking can be found (for a short period) further along in Rock Park.
